“My tip to avoid [long-lasting lipstick from feeling too dry] is to make sure your lips are exfoliated and hydrated before you apply your lip color,” says Sangoo. “I also love layering a little bit of lip balm on top of lipstick to bring some moisture back to the lips without interfering with the formula.”

Which lip balm should I use?

For a universally flattering finish, go for a neutral pink- or peach-tinted lip balm, or super-sheer lipstick dabbed right up to the edge of the lip line using your finger. If lip stains and matte textures are your preference, it’s essential to exfoliate first.

How hydrating is lipstick?

Infused with a blend of nourishing oils, like almond and jojoba oil, we found that the formula felt pretty average in terms of hydration (it wasn’t drying but it also wasn’t the most hydrating option), though the creamy consistency was ultra-soft and lightweight on the lips.
