Are electric mountain bikes mid-drive?

Most electric mountain bikes are mid-drive. On hub motor ebikes, the weight of the motor is unsuspended. The wheel with the motor can behave unexpectedly when it hits a bump due to the extra weight of the motor. For example, when you hit a pothole, the wheel with the motor drops harder and faster because it’s heavier.

Why should you buy a mid-drive ebike?

Use of the gears- Mid-drive motors deliver power through the drivetrain. Lighter- Mid-drive motors weigh 2-10lbs less than hub motors. They climb better- You can shift down to make climbing easier. Better performance- Mid-drive ebikes accelerate faster, climb better, and have a higher top speed. Safer- Frame failure is less likely.
